Despite reports to the contrary, business travel in Australia is defying the downturn, with results from a recent travel survey indicating more than 70 percent of regular business travellers have not cancelled any business trips as a result of the global financial downturn.
While it has been reported that airlines are struggling to book tickets for flights as the economic crisis escalates and swine flu grips the globe, the Quest Serviced Apartments Business Travel Survey has found that business travellers have not altered their plans.
The survey found that over 63 percent of business travellers expect to travel the same amount over the next six months despite the difficult economic climate, with 29 percent of these respondents planning to stay in less expensive accommodation if they do make a change to their travel habits.
Quest Chairman, Paul Constantinou said the results reflected a more positive outlook as the new financial year gets underway.
“In most instances, travel is essential to maintaining and growing a business. While people are still travelling, they are looking at ways to ‘trim the fat’ from their expenses.”
