Government assistance for business bushfire victims

The Victorian and Federal Governments now have an assistance program in place for primary producers and businesses affected by the bushfires.

Small businesses that have lost property or equipment in the bushfires can claim an immediate $5,000 Emergency Business Grant for repair and restoration, with another $25,000 available for significant damage, subject to assessment.

Also on offer is a low interest loan scheme through the Rural Finance Corporation where physical assets have been affected. Loans of up to $200,000 over 15 years have been given a concessional rate of 3.2 percent per annum for the first five years of the loan.

Bushfire-affected businesses can also access free, independent business advice to help determine how best to respond to the impact of the bushfires on their business.

To enquire about the Emergency Business Grant or loan, visit the Rural Finance Corporation at www.ruralfinance.com.au or call 1800 255 925.

For information on business counselling and general business advice, visit Business Victoria at business.vic.gov.au or call 13 22 15.
