In yet another blow to the NSW Government and Opposition, the president of the Business Council of Australia, Greig Gailey has come out saying that NSW’s economic problems could have been avoided if the state opposition was stronger.

The dire state of the NSW economy, including the various problems with the rail system is something that needs to be addressed, said Gailey.

“NSW is a problem, and is a problem that at some stage has to be addressed….I lived in Sydney for 10 years and the transport system was pretty problematic and I think it still is.”

Mr Gailey has acknowledged that the financial downturn has not helped matters, with NSW currently facing a $700 million deficit.

“I think we have weak oppositions in a number of states and it has not been good for the political system or the economy.”
