I write to you from sunny Broome, one of my favourite places on the planet. I’m here with the lovely and talented Lauren Thomson Gorton (follower her on Twitter @L_T_Gorton…she’s a hoot!)We’re on a semi-secret squirrel mission. Semi secret in that I’m telling you that we’re here. ..But again, I digress.

Picture this…

TravelLeaving Perth this morning, we do the whole e-check in thing and high five each other when we realise we’re placed in the emergency exit rows.  Side note – LTG is the size of a flea, and I’m a modest size 10 – not the kind of gals you’d hang your physical salvation on…but hey, we got extra leg room….

At the boarding gate, the Qantas man takes our passes and asks us solemnly if we are prepared to assist in the event of an UNLIKELY emergency. We nod gravely.  He turns to LTG.

“And you ma’am, you are over 15 years of age??”

Now listen. While LTG is far from a senior citizen she does look older than a year 10 school girl. I shriek with laughter and despair. Laughter because LTG is still a couple of years the right side of 30. Despair because the man didn’t ask ME if I was older than 15. Okay, 18. Damn it, 21!! *Sighs* Okay, 30.

It was too funny, but even MORE so because not more than a month ago, LTG and I were at a function together when a gentlemen we had just been introduced to went down the same path, while under  the influence of more than one sherbet.

Rosy cheeked, he leans in (he was, alas, a close talker)

“Hey, you two do the mother-daughter thing often?” He asked, bright eyed and oblivious.

“Not often,” I deadpanned back. “Because that would mean I would have had her when I was nine.”

Horror stricken, our harmless new friend tried hard to back-hoe his way out of the gaping trench he had just fallen into. Gracious ladies that we are, we rescued him and absolved him of his sins.

What’s this got to do with running a business? Well, not sure to be honest but I think it’s got a lot to do with attitude and attitude is everything. In life and in business you will only ever live at the level at which your attitude places you. Learn to laugh. Learn to worry only about things that warrant it. Learn to discern the difference.

Let me repeat. Attitude is EVERYTHING. Give me a person with 70% talent and 100% attitude over someone with the reverse any day of the week. Give me one person with initiative and I’ll replace the three people without. Get my drift?

As for just what our semi-secret squirrel mission entails…well you’ll all just have to stay tuned…

What do you think?
