Google, a trike and a baby elephant

So, it turns out some of you non-media types are actually interested in what us journalists do on a day-to-day basis. And while it’s definitely not all glamour at Dynamic Business, to the less cynical and jaded people out there, some of the days in the life of an editor are really pretty cool.

Take today for example. Google launched its new Street View trike at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. And if, like me,  you must grudgingly go to work on a day which should really be a public holiday, starting your Monday morning at the zoo is a bit of a treat. It’s even more exciting if you’re a ‘zoo parent’ of the famous baby elephant Luk Chai.

The invited journalists were told Google was launching something to do with Google Maps at the zoo and the trike was revealed as the announcement was made. It will travel around the areas the Street View cars can’t get, like Taronga Zoo, to add new imagery to the Google Maps Street View feature. If you’ve been to Taronga, you’ll know it’s pretty hilly. No wonder Google chose its new cyclists for the 110-km trikes based on “quads of steel”. I don’t fancy their job much.

Google will be asking the public to suggest locations for the trike to travel. If you have any bright ideas visit www.google.com.au/trike in the next 14 days.

We’d love you to share your ideas here too.
