Aussies would change jobs despite economic doom and gloom

Even with continuing reports of poor economic conditions, the majority of Australians would be prepared to change jobs if an opportunity arose to do so, a survey has found.

The Robert Walters survey found 83 percent of professionals would change roles if given the chance.

It also found 60 percent of workers feel less secure about their employment because of negative reports around market movements and global financial pressures.

According to Robert Walters managing director James Nicholson, this indicates people are cautious but still open to better employment opportunities.

“Although there is still a high degree of uncertainty in the economy across Australia, professionals are prepared to look beyond this and are optimistic,” Nicholson said.

“In spite of the “doom and gloom” economic reports, people are still willing to make a move if that will make them happier professionally.”

The findings show that attitudes towards the workforce in Australia have remained similar over the last few years.

“It supports previous research we’ve done that indicates as a whole, the workforce in Australia tend to invest more care into work/life balance and career progression, rather than the financial side of their jobs,” Nicholson said.
