Employers urged to heed minimum wage changes

Changes to the National Minimum Wage were implemented on 1 July, with Fair Work Australia urging all employers to ensure they’re across the new Awards.

The National Minimum Wage for adults is now $15.51 per hour and equivalent increases have also been made for junior, apprentice and disabled workers.

The National Minimum Wage Order has also increased weekly minimum wage rates and allowances under Modern Awards by 3.4%.

Modern Awards containing the revised rates have now been released, and are available for download from the Fair Work Ombudsman website.

Fair Work Australia suggests all employers carefully assess their Modern Award coverage and pay rates to ensure that they are compliant with the 2011 National Minimum Wage Order, as well as any applicable Modern Award transitional provisions.
