Hangovers costing local business $5.6 billion every year

The 183 million litres of alcohol consumed in Australia each year isn’t just giving employees a headache, it’s also costing local businesses $5.6 billion in lost productivity, and this year’s Australia Day celebrations look set to deliver their fair share of hung over employees.

With Australia Day falling on a Thursday this year, businesses are being warned Friday January 27 could be a black day for productivity.

As many Australians gear up to celebrate on Thursday, businesses are expecting a loss of productivity courtesy of employees who call in sick or show up too hung over to work effectively.

According to the 2007 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, produced by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 83 percent of Australians reported that they drink alcohol and 40 percent drink on a weekly basis.

Based on this figure, the team at Security Feel Better have found if people choose to drink on Australia Day, there could be some 9 million Australians drinking this Thursday, with many feeling hung over on Friday. It suggests employees who plan on drinking this Thursday despite the fact they have to work on Friday, consider using its hangover remedy to help lessen the burden on businesses.

“If people take Security Feel Better after partying on Australia Day they will wake up hangover free and be able to function at work the next day,” Security Feel Better managing director Michael Romm said.

The key ingredient in Security Feel Better is artichoke extract, which works by helping the liver remove alcohol from the system up to five times faster than normal.
