Queensland is gaining recognition as a global business hub for smart services, with innovative companies contributing to improved productivity and greater efficiency across a wide variety of business sectors worldwide.
Premier Anna Bligh said that the ingenuity and global relevance of the State’s technology-based service companies was a feature at the 2010 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards.
“Our smart services sector will become increasingly important to Queensland’s exporting economy as we move further toward a technology-based economy in the future,” Ms Bligh said.
“A key example of a success in this sector is Queensland company, ecospecifier, which is making a strong contribution to the global green building push as a service linking green building projects, products and services. ecospecifier is a deserved winner of this year’s Premier of Queensland’s Export Award in the Small Business category.
Co-founder of ecospecifier David Baggs said that exporting adds significant value to the business, driving synergies between global websites and attracting interest in the company’s Australasian GreenTag Certification product rating service.
“The overall effect is to have created not only extra income, but additional credibility, recognition and leverage for entry into major markets like the USA and Europe,” Mr Baggs said.
Ms Bligh also congratulated Brisbane-based Mineware on its success in the Emerging Exporter category at the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards.
“Operating since 2005, MineWare is a leading provider of dragline and shovel monitoring systems to global surface mining industries. The Australian company has developed a strong reputation for integrated technologies that optimise mine, machine and operator performance, with small efficiency gains potentially worth millions of dollars,” Ms Bligh said.
“Mineware has 15 employees, and generated 2 million in export sales in 2009, or around one third of the company’s total sales.”
Andrew Jessett, Mineware’s CEO said that the company’s strong export focus continued to deliver significant value to its business and clients.
“In targeted markets such as South Africa, we are working closely with clients to roll out our monitoring systems across multiple mines and sites.”
“These awards are an excellent platform for showcasing the global strength, capabilities and competitiveness of Queensland businesses,” Mr Jessett said.
The Premier said that she wished ecospecifier, Sedgman and Mineware, along with other winners in the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards in 2010, every success as they progress as finalists in the Australian Export Awards to be awarded in Sydney 1 December.
