Apple iPhone OS 3.0 software updates now available
Apple has launched the latest version of its iPhone software and Software Developer Kit (SDK), available for download from today.
The updates include a variety of user interface improvements and developer tools that provide applications with deeper access to the iPhone hardware.
iPhone OS 3.0 will be available today and tomorrow in some parts of Asia-Pacific, free to existing iPhone owners and a $9.95 upgrade for iPod Touch owners.
Tim Renowden, analyst at advisory and consulting firm Ovum, said the software updates will enhance the user experience with new features including: the ability to copy and paste, send and receive multimedia messages; Spotlight (searching the contents of the iPhone); improved online Calendar support tethering to allow use of the iPhone as a cellular modem (subject to network operator approval) and push technology allowing applications to alert users when a message or event is received. Apple has also improved the consistency of its user interface, adding a landscape-format on-screen keyboard across all core applications.

Henry, there’s no real ‘procedure’. Just make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (8.2) and then plug your phone in – as if to sync. The pop-up messages will be self explanatory. Oh, and it’s FREE, but you can only do it through iTunes – no particular online sites…

For some reason there has been a delay and I couldn’t get my iphone to recgonise that there was an update – when I tried it at 8:20am BST it still though thtat 2.2.1 was the current version – I’m going to have another look at lunch but it’s not looking very promising
I just read somewhere that the new update was delayed and now won’t be released till June 18th (maybe even till the 3G S comes out), but the apple site still says available June 17th…so I’m a bit confused especially because it is June 17th and there is no update. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?

Hey People! Calm down… time difference is the key. June 17th 2009, 12:00 AM midnight here in Toronto is not the same as in California, so be patient.
I have spent the entire night waiting for the update till now. Only what I get from the bloody iTunes that the current version is 2.2.1 and I can’t update to 3.0.
The other Unhappy point that iTunes shows me that the next auto check for updates will be in 6/24/09… Anyone know any idea about this please? It’s kinda frustrating!

its finally here its here go to itunes and hit check for update. Mines just finished and its freaking sweet!!!
I got my update, I’m still downloading it. I just wanted to confirm that its getting soon to everyone. I got it around 9:41PM in United Arab Emirates Timing. ( UAE = +4 GMT )
it’s now on . but the problem that , it tell me , that (he item you’ve requested is not currently available in the Emarati iTunes Store )

You need a U.S iTunes account, not a UAE account. because UAE account is useless as far what I suffered from that till I figured out that the best thing is to get a US account.
Thats only apply if you want to get the free stuff and updates. but if you want to purchase thats a different story.
