Aussies looking for love in financial crisis
It seems the financial crisis has Australians thinking about more than just their money, with dating website rsvp.com.au reporting a 31 percent increase in new membership in the previous three months.
Love is in the air, with RSVP customer service director Lija Jarvis believing the jump in members reflecting, not only a trend in online retailing in the downturn, but dating, as the costs of single living have skyrocketed.
“ A recent survey undertaken of our membership highlighted that singles believe it is far more expensive being on your own than in a relationship.”
According to Jarvis, the crisis is seeing many Australians worried about their finances, so much so that they are seeking a partner to share the burden.
“The vulnerability and uncertainty around job security, saving money in a financial downturn and not having someone to support and back up your cost of living in light of job losses or pay cuts was a huge fear for many singles.”
