Aussies stay home to entertain in crisis

The global financial crisis is forcing more and more Aussies to stay at home and entertain, according to the Pure Profile online survey.

The Pure Profile survey, carried out for Telstra in May, revealed that 50 percent of the 1,201 Aussies surveyed spent atleast five extra hours at home each week, while one in four cited surfing the internet as their new form of entertainment.

Social commentator Mark McCrindle said as people spent more time at home they were using the internet more in an effort to cut down on entertainment costs.

“The trend towards nesting finds a growing number of people using the internet not only for research and education but increasingly for entertainment.”

The survey also found that 28 percent are now entertaining friends at home, while 65 percent are cutting back on the amount of times they eat out.
