A new business survey conducted by Reckon Limited, has shown that despite a slowing economy, rising unemployment and the fear of recession, Australian businesses do not expect their business to slow down.

The survey, distributed to more than 21,000 business owners in December of last year, revealed that 53 percent of business operators expect an increase in revenue in 2009, with 64 percent expecting profitability to either remain unchanged or increase.

According to Reckon Limited Business Division CEO, Gavin Dixon, Australian businesses are becoming more realistic about the future of their business and expected earnings.

“Australian SMEs are resilient as well as being realistic. They are developing a number of different strategies for coping with challenges brought by the changing economic conditions.”

The results reflect a change in the priorities of business owners. In 2008, 55 percent defined business success as achieving the perfect work/life balance, whereas this year, 62 percent believe increased profits will lead to business success.
