Be strategic with your time

We are all so busy… yes, I know, me too! But are you doing the important stuff (the stuff that will grow your business), or are you just fluffing around looking important, but achieving very little?

Here’s a little reminder for you, time tick tocks away every single second and guess what, you can’t get it back. Once it’s gone it’s gone.

There are many thieves of time – other people, circumstances, technology etc. Yes that’s a lot of excuses you have, isn’t it? If you honestly think that other people and circumstances rob you of your time the most, you are sadly mistaken. The person who robs you of your time is you! You waste your own time when you let others rob you of yours. YOU are in control of your time, no one else, and until you take ownership of that fact you will forever be robbed of time.

Be strategic about it. Observe your time and where it goes. Trust me when I say you are your own worst time vampire. You whittle away time getting distracted by stuff! I know, because we’ve all done it.

How productive are you really being in a day? When you get to the end of the day can you honestly list out exactly what you’ve achieved that day? Have you made inroads into projects? Have you made progress on your goals?

I can hear the thoughts running through your head now – but I get so many interruptions, people call, email, drop in and I have to deal with that. Just stop! Listen to me: how you respect your time is how others will respect it.

Just like you need a strategy for your marketing, you also need a strategy for your time.  Observe where you lose time (ie interruptions). Track what you are actually getting done in a day and where you are distracting yourself, letting other distract you, losing focus on the end goal. You do have goals, right?

Be ruthless in judging yourself – your business is depending on it.

What do you think?
