Business owners invest in training in downturn

Australian businesses are investing more on training their internal trainers in the downturn, in order to make their workforce more efficient and competitive, according to new research.

Australia’s largest provider of trainer training, Queensland-based MRWED Training and Assessment, has reported a 25 percent surge in its training courses over the past six months, as businesses move to prepare themselves for a future economic recovery.

MRWED principal Marc Ratcliffe said demand had come from a range of industries, all seeking to better utilise their existing workforce.

“Some of these organisations have retrenched staff, while others are not hiring additional staff.  This means their current workforce needs to work harder and smarter.”
