Facebook introduces new usernames

Facebook has announced it will allow members to register their own usernames on their page in order to make it easier for friends to find them.

The move has been designed to mirror that of rival MySpace, allowing users more control over their accounts.

From Saturday users will be allowed to enter their own unique user name, and to avoid “squatting” on popular names, only users who joined Facebook before 3 p.m. Tuesday will be able to sign up for usernames on Saturday. Everyone else will have to wait until June 28.
