Gold Coast vies for ‘most liveable city’ tag

The Gold Coast has launched a 30-year strategy to make it the most liveable city in Australia.

Gold Coast major Ron Clarke unveiled the plan yesterday, following consultation with 11,000 residents and business leaders.

A number of targets have been set to achieve this goal by 2040, which include: native bushland must cover a higher proportion of the Gold Coast than any other major city in Australia, shortest average travel time to work, highest proportion of residents who feel a sense of belonging to their community, employment destination of choice and the most liveable and resource-efficient major city in Australia.

Clark said the vision is for a city that is “defined by its spectacular beaches, hinterland ranges, forests and waterways; for an outstanding city that celebrates nature and connects distinct communities with the common goal of sustainability, choice, and wellbeing for all.”
