Google+ for business and brands in development

Google has asked businesses not to use consumer Google+ accounts to build a page for their brand on the new social networking site, promising to deliver a specifically optimised experience for businesses, brands and entities.

Google+ Product Manager Christian Oestlien appeared in a YouTube video yesterday, explaining that a business-optimised version of the network is being built by engineers and will be available later in the year.

“It will include things like rich analytics and the ability to connect that identity to other parts of Google businesses might use on a daily basis, like AdWords,” he said.

Oestlien said Google is asking for businesses and brands to sign-up to partake in a testing stage, to see how the service will mean brands interact with each other on the site and with consumers.

Those interested in taking part in the test stage are invited to fill out a form, and Google will get back to them.
