Julia Gillard ousts Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister
Julia Gillard has ousted Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister of Australia after a 9am Labor caucus meeting which saw Ms Gillard elected unopposed after Kevin Rudd stood down.
Julia Gillard had long played down suggestions that she would make a move against Kevin Rudd, playing the role of a loyal deputy while even as Kevin Rudd’s poll numbers went south, but after a report emerged yesterday that ‘numbers were being crunched’ in Kevin Rudd’s office on a hypothetical challenge against Gillard, the game was on.
Dr Elizabeth van Acker from the Centre for Governance and Public Policy at Griffith University believes the pace of the political change was mind blowing.
“The remarkable speed of this change is mind blowing. And also the fact, it just came to her, she didn’t have to do deals, or number crunching, she didn’t want it particularly but she had the support and she won. This time yesterday there was no public indication this would happen. ” Dr van Acker said.
“It’s exciting that finally we have a woman as PM. She will be tough. She hasn’t become the PM through quotas or because it’s time for a woman, it’s because she’s done the hard yards and shown her competency and capability to do the job. She will rise to the occasion. ” van Acker continued.
As for calling the next election, depending on initial polling for Julia as Prime Minister, it is possible that an election could be called as early as August, before Tony Abbott can mount an effective attack on the new Prime Minister.
“She should call an election straight away while the excitement, euphoria and the honeymoon period are still strong and before the opposition hammer her about difficult policy issues like the mining tax, the ETS, the education building scheme and home insulation. She should go to an election right now while she’s on a high.” She said.
The share market has reacted positively to Julia Gillard becoming Prime Minister, with mining stocks up under the belief that Gillard will most likely come to a compromise less than had been feared over the RSPT. With regards to the upcoming G20 summit in Canada, former Prime Minister Rudd was planning on attending, but Wayne Swan will now attend G20.
I believe that Miss Gillard’s elevation will be bad for business. She is a left-wing union puppet and has been elevated due to her gender, not on merit.
Her incompetence as a hands-on decision maker within the Rudd cabinet brought about immense and inexcusable financial waste including the Building Education Revolution (and not small figures – $billions). That type of mismanagement does not inspire confidence. The public have long memories. By removing Rudd at this stage in proceedings, Labor has effectively guaranteed its demise whenever the election is held. The covert background conniving by unions and the NSW factions that brought about this swift change shows that government is not in the hands of the public, and must be returned to them.
I think that Julia gillard has potential to lead are country in pride. As the first female PM of Australia she will do great things to the country that Kevin Rudd could never achieve.
Finally, we have embraced a woman who worked hard behind the scenes.
Good on Kevin Rudd for being such a good sport and stepping gracefully aside. Labour wins again on honesty and decency!
Regardless of who is driving the bus, they have already made a bunch of bad turns that will take many years of Liberal leadership to fix…. as per usual.
Its about time! What an amazing day! Th first female PM, winning the role through hard work, competency and against the male dominated odds of federal parliament. This marks a day of positive change and immense pride. Congratulations to labor for elevating this exceptional woman to the heights she has rightfully earned and deserves. Congratulations! It is days like this that confirms telling our children (our sons and daughters) ”They can do and be anything’ are made true.
Gillard is a unionist and did not have the loyalty to Rudd as she has been spinning for months. We are the laughing stock world wide. Rudd did not save us from the GFC he panicked and throw money away that was hard won by the previous government. Australia was in a good position to weather the GFC and did not need money thrown away and mismanaged. Gillard Swan and Tanner with Rudd were the major decision makers and hopefully will be judged by Australia, have made bad decisions since Rudd was elected. Australia is not in good shape and Gillard will be union driven and a hopeless PM.Every time the Labor Party gets into power we have mismanagement and bad government. Could not agree more with Sally Watson.
How can Julia Gillard be any different to Kevin Rudd. She was right behind Kevin on all the bad policies he has made over his term as PM, backing him all the way.
As a Liberal voter, I think Labour has done the best thing possible. Liberals will need to show a bit of possitivity or be a spent force. Rubb was the problem not Labour and with a lack of a viable alternative, Gilard not withstanding any stupidity, should be a shoe in.
Lot of dumb people on here like for example NAS Most idiotic fool. What a day u can tell ya grandchildren how to stabb ya father in the back? How to treat people badly and how too: Its unfortunate a brilliant PM has been booted out of office by a combination of mafia/political godfathers,wealthy and greedy businesspeople/miners-really sad day for Australia politics
And the other fool. HRH. Sick day for Australia very sick!
Will Julia Gillard’s re-elected Labor Party government fixed voters voices, pains and crying?
The historical hung parliament demonstrated deep in voter’s heart a fixed must to carry on in vision and action immediately:
Voters’ voices do not hear?
Voters’ pains do not ease?
Voters’ cries do not care?
1. Poverty will not be phase out if no fairer resources to share;
2. Illness will not be reducing if no preventive measurement in real action;
3. Agriculture will not be revitalize if urbanization continuing its path;
4. Housing affordability will not be reach for young generation if government continues cashing from young generation debt by eating out the whole cake of education export revenue without plough back;
5. Manufacture industry will shrink smaller and smaller if no new elements there to power up to survive;
6. Employability will not in the sustainable mode for so long as manufacture and agriculture not going to boost.

What democratic societies should learn lessen from Australia election 2010:
1. What productive action Gillard Labor government 5 billions to UN buys ousted PM Kevin Rudd’s face?
Voter’s pains did not link to high income Politicians and Bureaucracy.
The Australia historical hung parliament demonstrated the big gap of inequality society between the small educated elite groups who get highest pay by talk feast used mouth work controlling live essential resources of the country in every social platforms against the biggest less educated groups who get lowest pay by hands work squeezed by discriminative policies that sucking live blood from individual poor/less wealth off?

Remember, it’s not one person to construct or destruct the whole lots of industries, it’s the matter of whole political party/government?

When we look at what Kevin Rudd’s labor government has expend John Howard’s coalition government endorsed Preventive Health program into “Healthy Active Life” program phase 1-2 before oust.
Will you then still believe Mr Barry O’Farrell’s coalition opposition is committed to health reform (put some money in some hospital if you liked)? Then call it rebuild the hospital system through Better Hospitals and Healthcare program? A truly health reform that would fix all health problems?
Will you also believe there were only 1-2 Politicians responding to this greatest “Healthy Las Vergas Broken Hill economy model”?
