Mobile phone daylight saving confusion

Thousands of Telstra customers were left confused and a little late yesterday, when an electronic glitch caused a number of mobile phones, BlackBerries and personal digital assistants to change their internal clocks a week early, winding back the clock one hour.

According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, many people were left late to soccer games, meetings, appointments and even flights.

A Telstra call centre operator confirmed the glitch, “Yes, we are getting a lot of calls about that.”

However a Telstra spokesperson, refused to take the blame, instead pointing towards a fault in the “factory software settings” within a mobile phone, that did not always know daylight savings had been extended to the first Sunday in April and overrode Telstra’s network settings.
