MYOB help small business tackle economic crisis
In order to help small businesses confront the challenges the economic crisis has presented, MYOB are holding a series of ‘Tackling Tough Times’ seminars during May and June.
The half-day seminars will show businesses how to stay in control in the face of economic adversity with simple survival strategies, software tips, practical action plans and guidance from leading professional services firm Deloitte and MYOB training specialists.
According to Tim Reed, CEO of MYOB, the pressure is building on businesses and, “now more than ever business owners need to step out of the daily chaos and look at the ‘big picture.’”
The latest MYOB Small Business Survey for March 2009 has revealed that 43 percent of small business owners report that the global financial crisis has had a negative impact on sales and 39 percent reported a negative impact on business costs.
Reed said small businesses need to take back control of their business.
“They (small businesses) should accept what they can’t control and put energy into what they can control. Business owners shouldn’t be afraid to seek specialist help, particularly in regards to staying on top of cash flow.”
At the seminar business owners, bookkeepers and office managers will learn how all about proper cash flow and budgeting strategies, debtor management and
cost control.

As a MYOB customer, I would like to be able to take my MYOB data with me ‘on the move’! I am also a user of Apple’s new iPhone/iPod Touch hardware and would like to know if MYOB software developers have created a MYOB App for these platforms?
Thanking you in anticipation and looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Thank you Peter for your comment and question.
Upfront let me say that we don’t have any immediate plans to release an iPhone application at this time. In fact last week I connected with other MYOB customers to determine their future needs, requirements and the enhancements they would like to see in our applications, and unfortunately iPhone/ipod applications were not on participants’ radars. However we will continue to closely monitor client feedback and respond in due course.
The news is better on your question regarding mobility. We are seeing an increased call for mobility solutions amongst small business owners. We do have some exciting mobility plans in the coming 12 months. In the interim I suggest two MYOB solutions to address your desire for greater mobility.
The first is our new online offering a Business Basics Online, which is a new online accounting system that allows you to access your data anywhere anytime. The trade-off, which you may need to make if you take this path, is that this solution is not yet as fully featured as some of our desktop solutions.
The second is via the MYOB Approved Hosting Provider Program. The process is simple and secure. Your MYOB software application and company data file are housed on a pre-approved hosting provider’s independent server. This program has been in place for some time and will allow you to continue with your existing datafile with greater ease. There is a small additional fee per month on top of your existing commitments.
I hope this helps you. You are also welcome to call the MYOB team on 1300 555 111 for further assistance – tell them Tim told you to call!

As a creative professional I have selected MYOB because of it’s Mac platform and it’s exceptional usability. Even my PC based accountant raves about the reports.
Because I travel a lot, I am wondering if there will be development of an iPhone APP of limited nature for basic accounting overviews.
Hi,
I to also have an iPhone and I have always been a fan of MYOB. My work mainly involves sales. At the moment I am using a iPhone app called invoice2go(feel free to delete that if you are going to post this). This app allows me to make a sale and create an instant invoice for my customers. It has it’s glitches and a lack of reporting, but the generally my customers are impressed by the technology. It also saves me paper work at the end of my day.
It would be great if MYOB created an app that allows you to do this and syncs with your MYOB back at the warehouse. Even some simple invoicing app that could let you invoice customers instantly and account your inventory.
More and more people are using iPhones everyday and it would be a shame that MYOB doesn’t keep up with the current technology.
Will we be seeing a MYOB app in the future…??
Kind regards
Paul
Yes Iphone interaction would be great!! some way of generating invoices and inputting expenses then syncing with the myob file
please please please….
Yes, an iPhone / iPod Touch App would be wonderful. For me it would mean not having to carry my (expensive) laptop with me. I once had to go to Europe with my Laptop just so I could generate a few invoices for Dad’s business and email them back to Australia. It was cumbersome and the cost of extra laptop insurance wasn’t cheap either. Just the ability to issues quotes and invoices would be a good start along with the ability to email them.
Creating an MYOB application to run on the Iphone would be a good idea.
By the time it looks like there is enough demand for you to develop it you will be behind the curve if you have not developed it already. Make it a competitive advantage, don’t let the competition provide your customers what they want. Look at the trends and the predicted sales for the newer Iphones, dont get left behind guys! WE WANT MYOB ON THE IPHONE AND IPAD!!! chop chop
This article is somewhat dated. I noticed there was an app on the horizon, however I don’t think it has been released yet. Any news on this?
