There has been a dramatic increase in the number of Australians looking for work during the past six months, with one in five now ‘actively looking’ for work, a new survey has revealed.

The Leadership Management Australasia’s latest Leadership, Employment and Direction Survey (L.E.A.D.) found that of the 3000 employees, frontline managers and business leaders surveyed, one in six employees say they have recently applied to leave their current employment, while the number of employees looking for work has increased by 36 percent since June. Almost half of all participants surveyed also indicated they are considering a move from their current job.

According to CEO of Leadership Management Australasia (LMA), Grant Sexton, as the economy improves, more employees are looking for new opportunities.

“The signs are clear – with the slow return to more normal economic conditions, talented employees are already on the move,” he said.

He warns employers to work harder to keep their best employees on board.

“Organisations will need to be highly vigilant in talking with and staying close to their top people. If they don’t, they’ll lose them,” he said.
