Optus finds wireless access chasm between small and large businesses

A new survey commissioned by Optus Business has found that size really does matter when it comes to business wireless access, with large organisations more likely to provide staff with laptops, while small business employees are given smartphones.

The survey of over 250 Australian businesses, found that 37 percent of large businesses will provide employees with laptops, compared with 11 percent of small business.

In contrast, over 59 percent of small business will give their employees smartphones, while only 26 percent of large business will do so.

Acting marketing director for Optus Business, Scott Mason said that while large organisations are more likely to give staff “a device that covers everything they need”, small businesses are looking for “productivity gains” at the executive level and amongst the mobile sales team.

I would have thought it has more to do with cost of provisioning – just another way for a carrier to generate more revenue – how about a subsidised laptop/carriage plan with included support??
