Optus teams with Australian Open to deliver Wi-Fi

Tennis fans will have access to Wi-Fi during the Australian Open tournament for the first time thanks to Optus, which has invested in expanding its network across the Melbourne Park event site.

Optus has joined with Tennis Australia to provide customers on any network the ability to access the latest news and the ability to connect with friends, download applications and online services at no extra cost.

According Optus sponsorship and community programs group manager Jann Kohlman, free Wi-Fi at the site will allow people access to all the high profile sporting event has to offer.

“At this year’s Australian Open, we are dedicated to delivering seamless connectivity and innovation to tennis fans for the duration of the tournament.”

Optus has invested $3 million in Network Infrastructure to boost network capacity in areas surrounding Melbourne Park.

Customers will also be able to view live streaming of Channel Seven’s event coverage via an Optus TV and Video app.

During the tournament the popular Go Places app will be enhanced to provide a Melbourne restaurant guide for those attending the event, available for purchase for the duration of the tournament.
