Research in Motion has launched a new online store for its Blackberry applications, Blackberry App World, which offers a range of applications for business and consumer use.

The online store will be available from today for Blackberry users in the UK, US and Canada, with more country launches to follow, including Australia.

The store was launched at the CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas, and will offer both free and paid applications with prices ranging from $3 to $1000 with developers paying $200 to join Blackberry’s program. An estimated 125,000 developers have already signed on to be part of the scheme.

BlackBerry App World is designed to automatically present the relevant catalogue of applications available for a user’s specific BlackBerry smartphone model. Users can also access the BlackBerry App World over both Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

“BlackBerry App World aggregates a wide variety of personal and business apps in a way that makes it very easy for consumers to discover and download the apps that suit them while preserving the appropriate IT architecture and controls required by our enterprise customers.”
