Samsung targets business market with Galaxy Tab Active

Samsung Electronics Australia has today introduced their first tablet built specifically for business.

Samsung said they used a series of advisory group workshops with Fortune 500 companies in order to develop a tablet designed to boost business productivity.

​“Samsung understands today’s businesses have demanding requirements to enable growth,” Todd Lynton, Director, Enterprise & SMB, Samsung Electronics Australia, said in a press release.

“The Galaxy Tab Active features deliver business functionality based on performance, durability and protection, to help users work more flexibly in and out of the office.”

The tablet, driven by a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor, includes Flipboard, Group Play, S Translator, Samsung Link, Story Album and TripAdvisor among its free downloadable apps and Chrome, Drive, Gmail, Maps, and YouTube among the included Google Mobile Services.

The tablet itself is actually quite resistant, able to withstand a drop of 1.2 m and its IP67 environmental sealing means it could even be submersed in 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes. The latter, while a nifty feature, is a little odd in a device targeting business.

Other features include a replaceable battery (sold separately) with a life of 11 hours, an auto-focusing camera that allows for barcode scanning, and the inclusion of Samsung KNOX 2.0, the company’s security solution used to keep data safe.

The Galaxy Tab Active 4G has been released with a retail price of $849 and the Galaxy Tab Active WiFi comes with a retail price of $699.
