Small business lack online presence

According to research conducted by WebVisible and Nielsen, reported by Marketing Charts, a large number of small businesses lack a visible online presence.

The report indicates that although 63 percent of small business owners turn to the internet first for information, only 44 percent have a website, and half spend less than 10 percent of their marketing budget online.

The report found a disconnect between the way small businesses act as consumers vs. the way they market their business online.

Small businesses are increasingly turning to the internet to find business information, yet the majority do not market their own business online. Search engines rank as the number one resource for small business owners for local products and services, with 92 percent happy with the result they receive.

Among those businesses that do have an online presence, only 9 percent are happy with their online marketing efforts.
