Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are more likely to adopt cutting-edge technologies than their larger counterparts, a new study has found.
Symantec Corp today released the findings of its 2010 State of the Data Centre study, which revealed mid-sized enterprises are more likely to adopt cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, deduplication, replication, storage virtualisation, and continuous data protection than large enterprises to reduce IT costs and manage increasing complexity.
They are 11-17 percent times more likely to adopt new technologies than larger, and also smaller organisations.
Deepak Mohan, senior vice president, Information Management Group at Symantec said that mid-sized enterprises tend to “evaluate and adopt new technologies at a faster rate than larger organisations.”
The study also found that for all Australian organisations, security, backup and recovery, and continuous data protection remain the most important initiatives going into 2010. Eighty-four percent of Australian respondents rated security somewhat or absolutely important, 78 percent said backup and recovery is somewhat/absolutely important and 68 percent rated continuous data protection as one of their top initiatives.
The study is based on surveys of 1,780 data centre managers in 26 countries including Australia in November 2009.
