WA small business payroll tax to save jobs

A radical plan by the West Australian Government to exempt small business from payroll tax for a year will help to protect jobs, says WA treasurer Troy Buswell.

The WA Government plan to implement a one-off payroll tax rebate. Businesses with a payroll up to $1.6 million will get a full payroll tax rebate next financial year, equivalent to an average of $46,000 a business; and those businesses with a payroll of between $1.6 million and $3.2 million will get a partial rebate, meaning half of the state’s businesses will get some form of relief.

Mr Buswell said the rebate, which will cost the Government $100 million, would help protect the jobs of about 68,000 employees in about 6700 businesses.
