Workers urged to go home on time today
Employees are being urged to go home on time today in order to combat a culture of long hours.
Unions NSW is calling for all workers to take a stand against unpaid overtime today for national ‘Go Home on Time Day’ – an initiative of thinktank The Australian Instutite.
Unions NSW secretary Mark Lennon said Australians work some of the longest hours in the developed world and it takes a terrible toll on family relationships, health and general community wellbeing.
‘Today’s event is an important symbol of how Australians feel about the ever-growing burden of unpaid hours,’ he said.
The day of action follows a survey conducted by the Australian Institute found that a typical full-time employee is working 70 minutes of unpaid overtime a day, which equates to 33 eight-hour days per year.
