Yahoo tackling mobile competitors with Developer Suite

Yahoo has unveiled its Mobile Developer Suite at the first Yahoo Mobile Developer Conference in San Francisco.

The company introduced a suite of services allowing developers to enhance, advertise, measure and monetize their mobile apps, a move the company says marks a big step in showing “commitment to its growth businesses – mobile, social, native, and video.”

The key feature in the suite is Flurry Analytics, which comes as a result of Yahoo acquiring Flurry in July 2014. An update to the analytics product, Flurry Analytics with Explorer allows developers to have further control of code they have already written, providing quick insights, and cutting out the need for queries, waiting for calculations, and having to implement a new software development kit (SDK).

Yahoo App Publishing provides the opportunity for developers to monetize the apps they have created by using Yahoo Gemini, BrightRoll and Flurry to develop native, video and display advertisements.

Yahoo App Marketing uses fast-growing mobile search marketplace Yahoo Gemini to make it easier for developers to gather new users and grow engagement. Targeted advertising can be bought across Yahoo’s network, including Tumblr and the company’s many apps.

Yahoo Search in Apps focuses on giving developers a simpler way to integrate the search engine within apps, which Yahoo says “enhances the user experience” and “can create an additional monetization channel.”

The final service announced is Flurry Pulse, a feature that allows developers to share app signals with partners. Using Flurry SDK and “the click a button,” sharing signals to partners makes it possible for developers to “limit SDK proliferation and engineering work.”
