Have you ever looked at a successful business and wondered what they are doing differently to you?

There are a huge number of different factors that contribute to success, but one of the most important is effective marketing.

There are a number of similar marketing principles that successful businesses follow, and you can implement them in your business – no matter how large or small your marketing budget is.

Give your customers what they want

What do your customers really want? It sounds obvious, but many businesses focus on giving customers what they need, rather than what they want, and this can be to the detriment of their sales. If you aren’t sure exactly what your customers want, market research can help.

Give customers a free trial

Taking a non-pushy approach can be the best way to increase your conversion rate and entice customers to your business. By giving them a free trial and allowing them to sign up at their own discretion, rather than making them give credit card details upfront, you are showing them you have faith in your product and aren’t going to try and push them into signing up for something they don’t really want.

Create products that are exclusive to your business

Creating exclusive products gives you a chance to leverage your existing customer base, and increase your sales. Is there anything that can be tied in to your existing products or services that can make your customers’ lives easier, or make it easier for them to use your existing products or service?

Focus on feelings when marketing your products

Rather than extolling the virtues of your product or service in your marketing, try focusing on how it will make your customer feel. The key to effective marketing is making your audience relate to your product on an emotional level. If customers believe that buying something will make them feel happier, less stressed or better about themselves, they are more likely to buy it than other similar products.

Keep pursuing new markets

To keep your business growing you need to find new customers. Can your product be adapted to suit a new market? Each different audience will need a different approach, and it is important that this is reflected in your marketing strategy. Thinking of creative ways to appeal to a number of different markets can help you keep your business expanding.

Successful marketing relies on a number of different principles, and having a well targeted, well thought out strategy. Are you doing all the above? If you are trying to grow your business, the five principles above can help you make your venture into a success and help ensure you keep growing long into the future.
