Apple reveals much-anticipated iPad Mini

In a long expected but surprise announcement, Apple has unveiled its new design for the iPad Mini.

Not long after the release of the iPhone 5, Apple has continued its innovation among its own technology platforms with the announcement of the iPad Mini.

With the insistence that it’s its own new design, rather than simply a shrunken version of the iPad, the iPad Mini is 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than the regular iPad with a 7.9 inch screen.

Screen resolution has been retained from the iPad 2 at 1024x 768 and its camera shoots 5 megapixel photos and 1080 p HD video. Similarly to the iPhone 5, the design for the new iPad Mini focused on maximising screen size by reducing the width of the bezels on either side of the display. The new iPad Mini also has a 10 hour battery life.

The iPad Mini also includes the same new lightning connector charge port that is also a key feature of the iPhone 5. The design for the new iPad Mini is also environmentally sustainable, with highly recyclable aluminium design and a BFR and PVC free design.

Online orders for the new iPad Mini begin on October 26 and will start at $369. The Wi-Fi model will be available in store from November 2 with Wi-Fi and cellular models being released in late November.

In the same live event, Apple have also announced the release of the fourth generation iPad as well as updates to their 13 inch MacBook Pro which is now thinner and lighter, the iMac desktop which has a faster processor and a chip update has been released for the Mac Mini.
