Retailers employ app technology to engage consumers

A Sydney-based start-up has received backing from AMP Capital Shopping Centres to get its location-based promotion iPhone app off the ground, which promises to assist retailers in engaging shoppers and boosting in-store traffic.

The new app, QuickerFeet, harnesses smartphone technology to complement traditional bricks and mortar retail, by enabling consumers to access in-store deals and promotions being offered at retail outlets around them. Stores a consumer selects can then send instant notifications, opening up a direct line of communication between retailers and their customers.

“As competition with online shopping sites heats up, QuickerFeet for iPhone could prove to be the powerful weapon that retailers have been looking for to attract shoppers and drive them in to local stores,’ QuickerFeet Director Darren Winterford said.

Winterford said the app means retailers can gain access to a location-based mobile app, without having to fund its development.

“For retailers, it means they can communicate with shoppers in their location in real-time. While for shoppers it means they can be the first to get the best in-store deals.”

The app, which is now available from Apple’s App store, enables retailers to notify shoppers of deals whether they’re in a radius of a kilometre or up to 100km away, which users can then share via social media.

Another benefit of QuickerFeet is delivers real-time flexibility, such as driving store traffic during a slow period, broadcasting in-store promotions or last minute discounting of perishables such as groceries or time-dependent products such as movie and concert tickets.

QuickerFeet is already being utilised by Lorna Jane, Event Cinemas, General Pants, Billabong, Thredbo, AMF Bowling and Rydges Resorts.

Vendor pricing starts at $5.00 to place a promotion with no additional cost, and no percentage of profits to share.
