Telstra to sell Sony Ericsson Xperia neo exclusively in Australia

Telstra will bring the Sony Ericsson Xperia neo Android powered mobile phone to its NextG network in Australia before the end of June this year.

Telstra made the announcement after Sony Ericsson unveiled the Xperia neo this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with Telstra to exclusively sell the Xperia neo for three months on the telco’s Next G mobile network.

The launch of the Sony Experia neo by Telstra marks the first Google Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 handset to come to Australia, with Warwick Bray, Executive Director, Telstra Mobility Products excited about the release.

“With interest in Android smartphones running high, we’re really pleased to be able to bring our customers one of the best multimedia Androids to launch this year.

“The Sony Ericsson Xperia neo combines the latest Android 2.3 operating system, a powerful 1GHz processor and impressive multimedia features you’d expect from Sony products.

“For instance, it incorporates picture technology previously reserved for Sony BRAVIA TVs to deliver bright, sharp images on its 3.7-inch screen. This makes for the perfect video-watching experience.

“Our customers will love using the Xperia neo’s photographic features too. It has an 8 megapixel camera which borrows technology found in Sony’s Cybershot cameras to capture better pictures in low-light conditions. There’s also an HD video recorder built in.

Telstra have not released firm pricing and availability details yet, with these to be announced closer to the launch date. It is likely however that the Sony Xperia neo will come in at a similar pricepoint to Telstra’s HTC Desire mobile phone when it launched last year.
