New LinkedIn iPad app makes networking easier

With networking key to success in the current business environment, the newly launched LinkedIn iPad app aims to help users make the most of its services.

The app, which is built for iOS 5.0, serves the fastest growing device on LinkedIn, with iPad use growing 250 percent from 2011 to 2012.

A range of new features have been built for the app, including modules to show who has viewed your profile and who’s changed jobs, and a congratulate feature.

The key feature of the app is the new calendar sync, which syncs with your device’s calendar to help make meetings run smoothly. The calendar sync has also been made available on the LinkedIn iPhone and Android apps.

The app works by pulling information from the LinkedIn profiles of the professionals attending your meetings to help you learn more about them, whether it be about their work experience, education, or any interests.

The app has been broken down into three main areas – profile, inbox, and updates – to make networking faster and easier. The profile area lets you access your profile, connections, and activity dashboard, while the Inbox feature provides one place to send and receive invitations and messages and connect with new contacts easily.

The Updates area gives you a look at your professional updates, news, and information, including news on what your connections and industry peers are reading and sharing. LinkedIn has also included local weather reports and a stock ticker in the new app.

LinkedIn has found that 22 percent of traffic from its 150 million users is coming from mobile devices, with the mobile platform the fastest growing consumer service at LinkedIn. An impressive 41 profiles are viewed every second from mobile devices, with 19 people searches done every second.

The iPhone and Android mobile apps will now be upgraded to include many of the iPad app’s features.
