Free help for small businesses

Small business owners can now get help with tax and superannuation matters
without leaving their workplace.

As part of the Small Business Assistance Program, the Tax Office is offering to visit small business owners to help them better understand their tax and superannuation obligations.

Tax officers can visit business owners at their own premises or a preferred location anywhere in Australia.

The service will help new and existing businesses with a range of topics, including:
•    registering for an ABN and GST
•    understanding employer obligations, including pay-as-you-go instalments, fringe
benefits tax, and superannuation guarantee, and
•    how to make the most of Tax Office services for small business, including the business
portal, record-keeping software, and a range of detailed publications and guides.

Tax Commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo says the visits aim to build confidence and improve the knowledge of small business owners.

“I’d also like to assure businesses that any information you share with the Tax Office is kept confidential and will not be used for any other purpose,” D’Ascenzo says.

Translators are also available for non-English speaking business owners. To arrange a visit, go to www.ato.gov.au/business or phone the Tax Office
on 13 28 66.
